Art About Town, sponsored by the River Valley Artists Guild, will present: "It’s Summertime!" June 4-July 30th, 2018 At 4 venues: Port Jervis City Hall, Bon Secours Cafeteria, Port Jervis Free Library, Deerpark Town Hall
Summer provides us with a visual banquet of diversity, from exquisite and rare plant life to common weeds. If it has roots, shoots, flowers and leaves, is waxy, fragile, sturdy or brittle, terrestrial or aquatic-it’s a very diverse, wide-open theme. Included in the exhibit are pencil drawings, paintings and pastels by artists who celebrate the visual beauty of summer’s diversity. Featured artists are Joe Petrosi, Judith Weiss, Joan Kehlenbeck and Susan Miiller. “It's a smile, it's a kiss, it's a sip of wine ... it's summertime!” –Kenny Chesney
NEW! At City Hall: Joseph Petrosi’s latest color pencil drawings! Joe is a Certified Art Specialist, textile airbrush specialist, and award-winning artist. In 2012 the Times-Herald Record chose him as Best Ink and Pencil Artist in the Hudson Valley. He founded PAPA (Paterson Association of Progressive Artists) in the 1970s. “I hope people looking at my artwork will enjoy the burst of color and serenity of the scene. They can find me at UpFront Gallery in Port Jervis most Thursdays.”
NEW! At Bon Secours: Judith Weiss’ summer themed expressionistic paintings. Judith says of her work” Growing up in a family florist and landscaping business that still thrives today. It is through the natural environment of earth, rock and water, and the plant world that I express the ineffable. I begin my work from landscapes I have seen and photographed, then put them aside and move into recall and personal feeling. In this way I communicate my inner landscape.”
NEW! At Port Jervis Free Library: Susan Miiller’s summer-themed oils and pastels. Susan Miiller is the recipient of several awards including Orange Arts Grants in 2016, 2014 and 2009 for “Deerest Deerpark”: an invitational show of the area artist’s decorations of fiberglas deer. Susan received an M.F.A. degree in 1992 and has been teaching faculty at SUNY since 1999. Her work is included in galleries and important public and private collections nationwide. “Using a wide variety of painterly techniques, my work obtains a beautiful presence of surface.”
NEW! At Deerpark Town Hall: JOAN KEHLENBECK’s florals and pastel landscapes. River Valley Artists Guild President, and Cuddebackville artist Joan Kehlenbeck is showing her latest pastel landscapes of the Bashakill. Joan has shown her paintings and pastel drawings regionally. In 2016, Joan was awarded the Individual Artist, Orange County Art Award. Joan includes important local, historic buildings and scenes in her work.
